The prospect of a new casino in Toronto has been on and off again for a long time, but now we have heard it looks likely to be off forever.

The Finance Minister Dwight Duncan was a big supporter of the new casino idea and has championed it for a long time, but this doesn’t mean it will be a starter. The idea is bound to look great to the Finance Minister as he is staring down the barrel of a $16 billion deficit that he needs to find and thinks the casino is the answer.

The issue with the casino is that it will be of no use to the economy and will actually have a huge impact on current casino type operations in the area.

Many feel the idea was doomed to fail as soon as it started, it seems that there is no appetite in the city for such a casino and only some parts of the government find it an interesting development.

Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak said of the casino:

“If I were in the Premier’s chair this is what I would do – before I would consider any new initiatives to get more money from people, is get your own house in order,”

“The OLGC has a bloated administration that is costing us too much money – so have you fixed your own problem? Do you have your existing facilities running like businesses or are they running like government bureaucracies?”
