Seneca Niagara Casino

Posted in Casino News by Kate Adams

Seneca Niagara Casino:  a great combinationof good gaming, food, and of course luxury. On a noral weeknight a visitor will find the casino to be mostly full with the restaurants having 20-40 minute waiting periods.

The blackjack tables will be filled as well as the roulette and craps tables. The poker room is a favored because of its daily tournaments and regulars at the no-limit tables.

Weekends are a different story with the whole casino extremely busy and restaurants having up to 90 minute waits. The tables are full and the poker room will also having a hefty wait for a seat.

As far as the restaurants go - The Western Door: A Seneca Steakhouse is a luxurious wonder for a casino. Each item is served a la carte and can be a bit pricey, however, it is worth the pay for the quality and service that is received.

The Thunder Falls Buffet is extremely popular with patrons and for $17-$18 is definitely worth the price. Koi is a fantastic mix of Pan-Asian choices. My favorite is the Chicken Satay.

If the free liquor starts to get to you and driving is not an option the hotel rooms are exquisite. Flat screen televisions, comfortable beds, great views, etc.

I have an extremely high opinion of the Seneca Niagara Casino and continually return.

Maximum Odds in a True Craps Table

Posted in Casino Tips & Strategies by admin

True Odds, or True Table Odds, involve multiples of the added odds available in the casino, creating what appear to be uneven free odds available for the player, depending on the point, but which actually simplify things for them in terms of running the game.

Purportedly they are good for the player, because it will reduce the house edge on more bets. But the casino’s motivation is to simplify the game, make it move faster, and get more money on the table, with the residual effect of more money eventually going to the house.

It has the effect of increasing the payoff on added odds bets - the Pass, Don’t Pass, Come and Don’t Come.

If 2x Odds was the standard, now it would be different:
– 3x Odds on the 4 and 10
– 4x Odds on the 5 and 9
– 5x Odds on the 6 and 8

As you’ll see below, this actually works toward equalizing the payoffs. Based on the initial bet of $5……
On the 4 AND 10, there is 3x Odds — on $5 bet, that is $15 added, which comes to $30 at 2/1 odds
On the 5 AND 9, there is 4x Odds — on $5 bet, that is $20 added, which comes to $30 at 3/2 odds
On the 6 AND 8, there is 5x Odds — on $5 bet, that is $25 added, which comes to $30 at 6/5 odds
Add the $5 initial bet and all payoffs are $35

For $10 bets….
On the 4 AND 10, there is 3x Odds — on $10 bet, that is $30 added, which comes to $60 at 2/1 odds¼br> On the 5 AND 9, there is 4x Odds — on $10 bet, that is $40 added, which comes to $60 at 3/2 odds

On the 6 AND 8, there is 5x Odds — on $10 bet, that is $50 added, which comes to $60 at 6/5 odds
Add the $10 initial bet and all payoffs are $70

For $25 bets…….
On the 4 AND 10, there is 3x Odds — on $25 bet, that is $75 added, which comes to $150 at 2/1 odds
On the 5 AND 9, there is 4x Odds — on $25 bet, that is $100 added, which comes to $150 at 3/2 odds
On the 6 AND 8, there is 5x Odds — on $25 bet, that is $125 added, which comes to $150 at 6/5 odds
Add the $25 initial bet and all payoffs are $175

Absolute Poker responds to Kahnawake Gaming Commission Report

Posted in Casino News by admin

Absolute Poker released a statement today that they no doubt hope will be the final chapter in the largest (reported) cheating scandal in online poker. In the statement, Absolute responded to the findings of a Kahnawake Gaming Commission Report published earlier this week that detailed the nature and level of Absolute’s involvement in a security breach that allowed players on several accounts to see their opponent’s hole cards.

The most interesting angle on this story to many is that so few people seem to care about it anymore. Developments in the scandal, which initially generated a massive groundswell of backlash from the community, now seem to result in barely a flicker of interest on forums and poker news sites.

The full text of the statement is reprinted at the end of this post. Below are a few links to various sources reporting on the KGC report and Absolute’s ensuing statement.

  • Wicked Chops accurately highlights the collective shrug that’s been the general response to the story.
  • Pokerati is suitably outraged (and has a nice archive of editorialized coverage of the scandal).
  • PokerBlog doesn’t understand why people are still playing on Absolute. We’re with them on that one.
  • A related 2+2 thread in NVG generates all of 11 posts.

Text of Absolute statement:

ABSOLUTE POKER RESPONDS TO KGC FINDINGS

(JANUARY 11, 2008) — Absolute Poker (AP) issued the following statement today in response to the Kahnawake Gaming Commission’s (KGC) release of its report “In the Matter of Absolute Poker Investigation Regarding Complaints of Cheating.”

“When Absolute Poker notified the KGC of the security breach in our system, we had every expectation that the Commission would undertake a comprehensive and fair investigation. After reviewing the published report, we recognize the completeness and accuracy of the KGC conclusions, and we accept without reservation the KGC’s findings and sanctions. Most importantly, we are pleased, after these many months, that Absolute Poker can finally put behind it a most distressing and regrettable experience for the Company, its employees, and its customers.

“The KGC points out that ‘AP has taken the appropriate actions to address the vulnerability in its systems…and to prevent its systems from being compromised again…’ AP has appointed a team of both internal and external members to improve controls and install safeguards, and accepts the audit findings as an opportunity to improve our internal practices and guarantee the safest playing environment in the industry.

“We are pleased that the KGC’s findings of fact point out that ‘there is no evidence to indicate that the impugned activities were initiated or sanctioned by AP…or were intended to benefit AP, as a corporate entity.’ The report also states that ‘AP made expeditious efforts to appropriately reimburse all players…with interest’ who were affected by the cheating.

“The Company also regrets the inadvertent deletion of certain gaming logs and records during the course of the investigation, although AP is relieved that these deletions did not, according to the KGC, ‘prevent the Commission from obtaining sufficient information…’

“Having experienced first-hand the devastating impact of a security breach, we fully appreciate the importance of trust and security for AP itself and the broader industry. A secure site goes to the heart of player confidence, and we are more committed than ever to ensuring that confidence. To that end, we have taken it upon ourselves to convene on January 18, 2008 the first of a series of ‘poker security summits’. AP will invite respected and independent members of the poker community to focus on innovative and cutting-edge ways to further improve AP’s security and enhance its transparency.

“As AP has repeatedly stated in the past, we regret the damage done to our players and to our own reputation by this incident. We acknowledge that the Company did not act with sufficient speed to uncover the fraud; however, once we were convinced of the veracity of the allegations, we moved quickly to inform the KGC and to reimburse affected players. While AP is paying a severe penalty for the fraud perpetrated upon the Company and its customers, we are gratified that we can now close the book on this sordid affair and return our full focus to providing the safest, most secure, and most eenjoyable poker playing experience in the industry.”

Comparison Between an Online Casino with a Traditional Casino

Posted in Casino News by admin

While online casino finds itself being propelled to the forefront in the gaming industry today, gambling itself has shed its traditional image of being for the super-rich and the upper class. Traditionally a casino has been associated with a comfortable persona and was thought to be unreachable for the ordinary masses (at least James Bond movies did their best to convey the same). With UK online casinos coming up in a big way, gambling has opened up and is being considered a sport today with championships doing the rounds. UK is the only country in Europe to offer online casino licenses.

While traditional casinos shed their assumed “deluxe” quality, they are still on the decline due to commercial as well as other causes. They can be summed up as follows:

  1. The cost of running a traditional casino is far higher than managing a UK online casino. The setup costs are also very different. While a UK online casino invests heavily in software and high-end computer hardware, a traditional casino invests more in low end hardware like lights, music, furniture and of course people. A traditional casino needs more resources and people to run compared to a UK online casino. Due to the lower cost of setup, more online casinos are coming up and therefore the competition is growing steadily. The competition in turn is giving rise to better and better services and the whole UK online casino industry is benefiting from this.
  2. Security is a major area of concern for online casinos, while traditional casinos rely more on “bouncers”. Online security is of prime importance due to rise in cyber crime and hackers. Major and continued investments are being made by all renowned UK online casinos to curb all security loopholes giving the players a safe place to play in. Physical harm is ruled out for players in online casinos while the risk exists for players in traditional casinos because of the large turnaround of money that happens in gambling. Moreover, online casinos do not have a dress code and the play happens from the comfort of home – you can even play in your pajamas! Cheating is completely ruled out in a UK online casino and thus the player needs to concentrate only on his play, this is a big difference with playing in a traditional casino.
  3. Ambience can be a good factor and also a disturbing factor depending on the mood and the nature of the player. A UK online casino works through software and thus the ambience is controlled while a player does not have any control over the hustle-bustle and loud ambience in a traditional casino. The pressure and disturbance that the traditional casino ambience builds affects the play and concentration. Playing at an online casino is calm and peaceful where a player can use his full concentration and skills taking his winnings higher.
  4. Playing in a UK online casino is also easy because the play is through a computer. The play is also much faster due to the lack of too many people and process in the course of game play. A traditional casino involves a lengthier game process and thus takes more time to play.

Thus, reduced risks, reduced disturbances, faster play and better winnings make playing at a UK online casino more pleasurable than a traditional casino.
