888.com In Talks With Ladbrokes

It has been reported that 888 Casino has been in talks with the UK high street betting and online casino company Ladbrokes for over a month now and we are no closer to knowing the outcome of the potential merger.

The first reports of the possible merger came out just over a month ago when Ladbrokes were quite open in stating they were in early talks with 888, but since this time not much has been mentioned.

Many in the online casino world believe that the merger wont go ahead as the talks have been going on too long and as many in business know, the long they go on…the less likely it will ever happen. In fact many believe the deal was over, that was until this past weekend when Gigi Levy of 888 said that the possible merger was still “definitely not off the table”.

The speculation around the merger has been interesting and has also reeked havoc with the shares of 888 online casino as their share prices have fluctuated greatly in the last few weeks and now site some twenty percent less than they were in the New Year.

Part of the reason why the talks may be strung out is because while 888 are trying to cash in quick and holding out for more money, Ladbrokes are in no rush as they have the upper hand. Ladbrokes will also be aware that 888 bought Wink Bingo in late 2009, but are yet to pay for this arm of its business as the buying price was being determined on the operating success of Wink Bingo. Rumour has it that the price of Wink Bingo will be more than 888 can afford so this will give Ladbrokes more leverage in the potential merger.

This is surely one to watch as 888 and Ladbrokes are big players in the online casino world.
