Ontario Online Gaming Review
British Columbia and Quebec have already shown their interest in implementing their own online casino’s for their residence and back in the autumn of 2010 Ontario showed and interest too.
In recent weeks this interest by Ontario has finally developed into making a move by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation by the OLG appointing a company to consult on the move. The time delay for this latest piece of news was because there was a full consultation process with different companies and it was not until recent weeks that the company was chosen as a consultant through the process.
The company that the OLG has picked is Sports Gaming Limited. Sports Gaming Limited will assist the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation in developing a well managed online casino by 2012.
The OLG has realised that Canadians wager around one billion dollars per year, with the vast majority of this money moving to off shore online casinos who reap the rewards in profits. Of this one billion it is estimated that Ontario makes up around 40% of this annual spending at a colossal four hundred million dollars.
Looking at the figures it is not hard to see why Ontario wish to cash in on this amount of cash and keep it within the province rather than let it move overseas to online casinos based in other countries. Many Ontarians who like to gamble online will see this as a positive move as it means being able to legally gamble at a trusted online casino in their own province.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation said of the move: “Between now and 2012 when the program is set to launch, OLG will benefit from analyzing and enhancing best practices and security procedures adopted in other jurisdictions across Canada and in Europe. In particular, OLG will implement a strong responsible gambling program and offer increased player protections, secure transactions and data privacy.
