Ontario to launch online casino
Only a matter of weeks ago we told you about British Columbia launching its own online casino and now it seems that other Canadian provinces are following suite with Ontario being next to start its own online casino.
There has been a lot of debate about Ontario starting an online casino but the red tape has now been overcome and the Ontario lottery officials have announced that there will be an Ontario online casino during 2012.
Some may ask why a Canadian province is starting its own online casino and the truth is it is a plan to overcome budget deficits. Currently Ontario has a budget deficit of nineteen billion dollars so you can see why the province is taking action to alleviate this.
With the people of Ontario alone spending some three hundred and eighty million dollars a year on non Canadian online casinos the Ontario province believes that it can recoup a major amount of local income from the people of Ontario while also being able to generate new income from overseas online casino players.
The Ontario online casino is to be managed by the Ontario Lottery And Gaming (OLG) Corporation. The Chairman of the OLG said of the online casino “Across Canada and around the world, online commerce is part of our everyday lives and OLG is excited to start the consultation process for online gaming and growing its marketplace in the future,” and “The OLG’s Internet gaming programme will stress responsible gaming while providing an enjoyable experience for Ontario players.”
This latest step by a Canadian province makes Ontario the second Canadian province to launch a website but our understanding is that more provinces are going to take the plunge into the online casino world to boost their budgets, lets wait and see on how special these online casinos will be.
