Saskatchewan Could Follow Trend

With the news that Ontario are looking at opening their own casino to recoup lost revenue and reduce budget defi cits and and British Columbia having already launched their online casino, Saskatchewan has been reported to be looking at whether it’s a viable option for its state as well.

It is believed that Saskatchewan is looking to team up with its First Nations to create an online gambling service as a way of reducing its budget deficit and try to reclaim a lot of the revenue it currently loses from its citizens to offshore gambling services.

Saskatchewan has a Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation that currently owns and runs two off line casinos and numerous video lottery terminals so the thought of taking this a step further and creating an online casino isnt too far fetched for this state.

The Gaming Minister for Saskatchewan has been talking about the possibilities and was heard saying: “The concern is, it’s harder to police, it’s harder to monitor, you don’t know who’s on the other end,” and “We want to make sure it’s those that are above 18-years-old and those that are responsible gamers that are taking advantage of it.”

While this is cautious talk the state is in line to partner with First Nations, a gambling company who have six casinos in Saskatchewan that are governed by the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority.

The only concern on the minds of those in the gambling field in Saskatchewan is whether this move would take revenue from their own bricks and mortar venues as the lure of being able to gamble online with a local, respected online casino could be too much. For now this concern is not affecting the possibility of Saskatchewan having its very own casino but only time will tell if this does happen.
